Settling debt
Debt settlement starts just as consolidation does, that is, with negotiation. But, in this debt elimination program you are working out a deal with the creditors to get them off your back for good. Once you agree on a final balance (usually about 40-60 cents on the dollar), then you are expected to pay that off in full and immediately. After which you will no longer have to worry about it, it will be considered to be satisfied - not according to the original terms, but satisfied none the less.
